Hardly anyone believes me. When I tell them I saw the Damned , inn Edinburgh. At a place called Cloud's. Dave Vanians wife was ill. So Gary Holten Yep. The guy from Heavy Metal kiiidss. Or more widely recognised as Wayne from Auf WeidersainPet. Stood in as singer. Band coes on . Sensible urinated on the crowd. 3 bloody songs . Place wrecked. That was the Damned. Amazing. Shared a no. 6 fag with Rat Scabies. They just didn't give a fuck.

Wow, I had no idea this existed! A glorious band on its way to establishing itself as punk's best. TV's still going strong with outstanding new songs alongside treasured oldies - catch him if you get the chance.

When this stuff was new, it was life-changing. There had been the feeling that rock was washed up and had run its course. "Rock is dead" was a popular slogan. The appearance of The Ramones and then this Brit slew of bands from out of nowhere suddenly was the LAST thing I ever expected. Damn, it made me so happy and grateful, lol.

Love Dave, he looks like a demented Ken Dodd here, which is pretty impressive 😊

Probably one of the very Best Damned footage ever .... Great Band , Fun to be with geezers... nothing rude , nothing mean , no agressive attitude from any of them .... Dave Vanium is a stunning frontman , a class act , ( no doubt )....... imo the Best from this period .... like a " Fred Astaire " of the Punk Scene ?

The Damned were the best punk band by far BUT they were NOT on the White Riot Tour at Suusex Uni. The Line up was - The Clash, The Buzzcocks, Subway Sect, The Slits (The Jam had left by then to start their own Tour) The gig was actually put on by the Polytechnic ents group (the 2 Max et al) , but such was the reaction to the Tour, it had to move to a larger venue than the Art College Sallis Benney Hall . I love the Damned, so I think I'd have remembered if they were there. They may have played there separately but not on the White Riot Tour. Rather amusingly the Sussex hippies billed it on the ticket as The Clash with friends :-)
